چکیده

Understanding long-term land use/land cover (LULC) change patterns is vital to implementing policies for effective environmental management practices and sustainable use. This study assessed of in LULC the Vaal Dam Catchment area, one most critically important areas South Africa, since it contributes a vast portion water Reservoir. The reservoir has been used supply about 13 million inhabitants Gauteng province its surrounding areas. Multi-temporal Landsat imagery series were map changes between 1986 2021. classification was performed by applying random forest (RF) algorithm data. change-detection analysis showed grassland being dominant type (ranging from 52% 57% area) during entire period. second agricultural land, which included cleared fields, while cultivated covered around 41% area. Other use types covering small portions area settlements, mining activities, bodies woody vegetation. Time increasing decreasing all types, except settlement class, continuous increase owing population growth. From results, class increased considerably 1986–1993, 1993–2000, 2000–2007, 2007–2014 2014–2021 712.64 ha (0.02%), 10245.94 (0.26%), 3736.62 (0.1%), 1872.09 (0.05%) 3801.06 respectively. highlights importance using remote sensing techniques detecting this vitally catchment.

Land cover land use mapping and change detection analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing

Land cover/land use categories are relevant components in land management. Understanding how land cover/land use change over time is necessary to assess the consequences of humans and natural stressors on the earth’s environment and resources. The aim of the study was to map and monitor the spatial and temporal change in land cover/land use for the periods of 1977, 1991 and 2016 and to predict ...

Remote Sensing Applications: Beyond Land-Use and Land-Cover Change

Remotely sensed (RS) imagery is increasingly being adopted in investigations and applications outside of traditional land-use land-cover change (LUCC) studies. This is due to the increased awareness by governments, NGOs and Industry that earth observation data provide important and useful spatial and temporal information that can be used to make better decisions, design policies and address pro...

Simulation and prediction of land use and land cover change using GIS, remote sensing and CA-Markov model

This study analyzes the characteristics of land use/land cover change in Jordan’s Irbid governorate, 1984–2018, and predicts future land use/land cover for 2030 and 2050 using a cellular automata-Markov model. The results inform planners and decision makers of past and current spatial dynamics of land use/land cover change and predicted urban expansion, for a better understanding and successful...

Remote Sensing Analysis of Land Cover Change

In Australia, remotely sensed Landsat data is routinely used for mapping and monitoring changes in the extent of woody perennial vegetation. Time series remotely sensed satellite imagery and ground information is used to form multi-temporal classifications of presence/absence of woody cover. Two broad-scale operational land cover change and monitoring projects are based on a series of algorithm...

Investigating the Effect of Dam Construction on Land Use Change and Land Cover in the Period 1991 to 2020 (Case Study: Gotvand-Khuzestan Dam)

Humans are always trying to change land to use natural resources to meet their needs. One of the land use changes that take place in order to benefit from sustainable water resources is dam construction. Dam construction has many positive and negative consequences for the environment from the beginning to use. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of Gotvand Dam on the probl...
